Urban farming is the practice of cultivating, processing, and distributing food in urban areas.

It contributes to food security and food safety in several ways. For example it increases the amount of food available to people living in cities. It also allows fresh vegetables, fruits, and meat/fish products to be made available to urban consumers. This decreases the risk of food deserts, which are areas with little or no access to affordable food needed to maintain a healthy diet.

Urban farming can be done in a wide range of scales: [2]
